Tadabbur e Quraan

Author: Amin Ahsan Islahi Translated By Shehzad Saleem

Amin Ahsan Islahi (1903–1997), a distinguished Islamic scholar from the Indian subcontinent, authored the groundbreaking Urdu commentary Tadabbur-e-Qur’an. This work introduces a pioneering approach to exegesis inherited from his mentor, Hamiduddin Farahi (1861–1930). At the core of this methodology is the concept of Quranic coherence (nazm al-Qur’an), which unifies meaning and thought by resolving superficial contradictions between verses within a surah. Rather than a superficial academic exercise, Islahi treats coherence as a rigorous intellectual pursuit rooted in the Quranic mandate for deep reflection (tadabbur). By applying systematic textual rules, his work serves as both a theoretical framework and a practical demonstration of nazm. This Tafsir provides a comprehensive analysis of Islahi’s methodological approach to establish a structured framework for its application in modern Tafsir.
